You want to go on holiday in Croatia but do not know what type of accommodation to take ? Here are some informations that I hope will helo you. 

The most popular type of accommodation in Croatia is: 

Private accommodation :  Before the 1990 war, almost all the accommodations offered were rooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms. At the end of the war in 1995, it was the tourist agencies that often advanced the funds to individuals to change their rooms into apartments. Gradually this is what they did and the quality of the accommodation offered went up in range. Now we have very modern apartments who has nothing to envy to other European countries. Of course prices are based on the proposed accommodation. 

The bed and breakfast : There are still some, but now with a private bathroom. This is a type of accommodation that people especially like out of season because they do not have to think about meals and especially enjoy to discover the local specialties (peka, sarma, goulash, ajvar, etc ...), while discussing with the Croatian owner. This type of accommodation is becoming rare because Croatians in the summer have two or three jobs in a single day and therefore no longer have the time to prepare meals. (For example: the owner works at local EDF, rents his apartments and the afternoon makes electrical installations at the private house). But it's still possible to find some. 

The hotel : Very popular before the 1990 war, especially for groups (young, compagnies, foreign groups) many hotels were requisitioned for a long time during and after the war. We found ourselves in a deficit of hotel rooms and especially unable to renovate them. Since the 2000s, there has been a big developement and we have moved from the communist-Russian style hotel to ultra modern style. This is great, beautiful hotels have appeared with jacuzzi, indoor pool, outdoor, spa, wellness, and all the best . I must say here that the Croatians have learned from what happened in Spain and from the beginning of the renovations / construction of these hotels they have respected the environment, you will notice that most of these "resort" fits into nature. Of course, like everywhere, there are exceptions. The hotels in Croatia are expensive. Reason why renting an apartment in Croatia or a house are the most popular accommodation in Croatia.

The villa - the villa with pool:  Let's say that since 2015, there is an explosion of villa with swimming pool. And this started with financial aid given by the state to make swimming pools in 2015.  These villas are also very luxurious, and allow to spend holidays with family or friends with the barbecue on the terrace while watching the children jumping in the pool. Since 2016-2017, owners are building luxurious, very large and with the most gadget possible their villas, such as the construction of a tennis court in the garden, gym and sauna in the house. ...
