Lake Vransko Jezero

This lake is a protected natural park and the largest lake in Croatia. It is 5 minutes from Pakostane, Biograd 10 minutes, 30 minutes and 30 minutes from Sibenik Zadar. It abounds in freshwater fish and it is a paradise for fishermen. It is also a bird sanctuary with rare types of marsh birds. Aboard this lake is a restaurant with a playground for children and access for swimming.

All around the lake, bike paths have been built and you will have an exceptional view of the entire lake !! Watch the virtual panoramic view here: Kamenjak Since 2013, the Natural Park of Lake Vrana (Vrana) is on the list of Wetlands of International Importance Ramsar. We start barely exploitation (2015) of this natural park that is nevertheless rich in opportunity : discovery, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing and outdoor birds ! But here is it ! Let's go !

I will explain everything you can see  in this park. In the far north west of the park, was created a bird sanctuary to protect more than 100 000 different species of birds including the purple heron, the bittern Etoille, the great egret alba, the marsh harrier, the corncrake, the little crake, the moorhen, Barred warbler, pygmy cormorant, green heron, squacco, the swivel hawk and egret.

Every year groups of volunteers come identify birds of this reserve: pose rings. A small bridge was built to be able to walk on the lake through the reeds and discover the birds, fauna and flora. Nearby is the town of Vrana, where you can have a beautiful view of the region. It is also a very old, rare example of Ottoman architecture in Croatia : the caravanserail of Maskovica Han. Watch her story here.

This monument has long been neglected and finally renovated in 2014. A real success with future 14 guest rooms, a restaurant, gift shops, antique steam out of the ruins and an art gallery upstairs (not yet operational in 2015). After the caravanserail, we continue the road towards Radasinovci, we follow the signs "Kamenjak" to reach the top of a hill with stunning views of the lake and the islands to the Kornati! absolutely splendid: Look virtual panoramic view here: Kamenjak.

On your return, do not hesitate to see a small winemaker but also the producer of the best olive oil in the entire Adriatic coast, Banjevci. Now, a boat will link the different parts of the lake to shorten the path for hikers (see photo ) but also for cyclists who want to go around the lake. Going around the lake is about  44 km, so it's not a bad idea to make a part of the course with electric boat. (2016 !) Kayaks and mountain bike rentals will be from the park entrance to Prosika.  More information: please visit their website http://www.vransko-jezero.hr/fotogalerija.php Find accommodations near Lake Vransko Jezero
