Peninsula of Pag

Pag is part of the larger islands of Croatia and has become a popular destination, due to late night parties on the beaches of Novalja. It's a bit the Ibiza of Croatia. Not just a little in fact : because famous disk jockey (as David Guetta and Bob Sinclar) will come there each year on the beach Zrce for Spring beak, concert, festival.
But you will also go on this island for something  else ......... I like to go for his so atypical landscape! Part of the island is completely bare, lunar due to the north wind (bura) blowing the salt on its hills. The other side of the island is protected from the winds so it is covered with green forests, vineyards.
First you arrive to the bridge who connect the mainland and the island. Once through, you stop the car. Notice the beauty of this barren landscape, the small chapel (see photo), the blue color of the sea which contrasts with the color of the dry land, and the background: the mountains of Velebit : it's beautiful isn't it ?
You continue your way and walk along the salt production which salt is extracted daily and is sold in all stores in Croatia ! Arriving in the town of Pag, you will see a pretty square where is St. Mary's Cathedral and you will love the shop in the pretty stone alleys and full of beautifully restored homes! A success.
Have a look at the salt museum (look the photo of the crib in salt- a copy is in the Vatican) and the Museum of Lace: lace of Pag is very famous in Croatia. Right next to a stone bridge overlooking the river and is very well illuminated at night. Terrace for coffee or a good Croatian beer (or Karlovacko Osujko).
Another famous product of this island is its cheese: Pag cheese, called "Paski sir" is a sheep cheese. Herbs that feed the animals, such as sage, salt and iodized by the sea wind, perfume their milk and make it a unique cheese, the best known of Croatia. Possible to visit the factories (Sirana Gligora) and participate in a tasting.
