The bridge of Mostar

Located 3 hours drive from Dubrovnik, you can visit Mostar on your road Split - Dubrovnik.

A little change of landscape on the road to go, different of  the seafront and beaches, you will enter in history. History of the Serb-Croat conflict of 91-95. During the conflict, the bridge was connecting the Croatian part of Mostar and the part Bosnian-Muslim of the city and has been destroyed ....
But Mostar has an even longer history .... Mostar is the capital of Herzegovina, a region of Bosnia. You will enter the country easily with a simple identity card. The bridge was built in 1452 to cross the Neretva River and facilitate trade. Through various invasions, Mostar at the beginning of the 20th century is inhabited, among others, Muslims, Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs. The destruction of the bridge in 1993 was primarily a symbol, reflecting the nationalist desires of countries in conflict: physically separate from each other. The shock was so big, the destruction of a work as beautiful and old, the UNESCO declared the city and helped rebuilding.
Now, the city has kept some scars of war and especially in the new part, in the old city, the restoration is perfect, I loved the view of the bridge from the garden of the mosque. Do not miss the small restaurants on the hillside and have a splendid view of the bridge. A specialty you have to eat are : cevapcici, there are only Bosnian who succeed with it. Every year on the top of the bridge, jumps are organized, always spectacular.
